Thanks for the article. VPN is good if you want to hide your real location. However, about content streaming, I prefer the DNS option. Currently, I am using HideMyAss Pro VPN and have no speed loss which allows me HD streaming with my 10mbps connection.
In my line of work, this is a necessity and Hide My Ass is the best of the best. I don’t think that I have used a better vpn and I don’t think I ever will.
HMA rocks! That 9.5 score is wrong, it should say 11! As far as VPA software goes, Hide My Ass is the most reliable that I have used and I wouldn’t do any work without it.

The IP bind feature built into HMA keeps me anonymous and shuts down any applications that try to detect my IP.
If you just want to protect yourself while surfing the web at a coffee shop then this VPN will work. HideMyAss does keep access logs and will turn them over to authorities if prompted. The price was pretty decent. The service was horribly unreliable. I had to keep switching access points because it kept slowing down to a crawl. I think they have too many users and not enough connections points to be honest. The support was pretty bad. I got canned responses and only after a few days of waiting. I would check out another VPN. Private Internet Access seems legit.

Slow, and L2TP has major disconnection issues. 30 day cancellation is a sham. I tried to cancel on day 2, and was told that I did not qualify because I made too many connections. My router only made too many connections, because their server kept disconnecting the L2TP connection. My router continued to connect and their system kept kicking me off every 30 second overnight.
Unfortunately HMA NO LONGER WORKS with Netflix !!.
Don’t believe any articles out there that tell you otherwise. This situation has still not been remedied (currently May 2016). HMA provides no useful information when you contact them (like they always suggest you do when you report the problem) They have no work around to provide, there is basically NOTHING that HMA can do and no information if anything will (or even can) be done in the future. However, although useless for Netflix , it still seems to be working with other streaming services I use. I like the structure of the program. It’s easy to use and has a choice of many servers. Speed is OK.
Non-delivery of services and unauthorized renewal
Hide My Ass did not deliver the services promised and processed a renewal without authorization. Please be very careful before signing up for this service.
No stable unless you change your location to somewhere close to yourself. What is the point anyway?
WILL charge your card the annual subscription and wont even send you an e-mail it has been done. and you CANNOT refund it because it is written somewhere in teeny letters. Duh?! I think this all together says only one thing – stay away for the better.
HideMyAss VPN is the worst VPN ever, False advertising, SLOOOOW speed and horrible support. I strongly suggest you stay away. Add to it, you will not get a refund even after you prove that their VPN doesn’t work, They are just thieves. I am planning on taking legal action against them. They have to be stopped. Add to it that they keep records of your activity. The worst. And did I say its very sloooooooooooooooooow. Just stay away.

I purchased a one-year subscription to HideMyAss, and now I am regretting it. Basically, this thing has a tendency to disconnect at random. With no “kill switch” mechanism in place, this will basically expose your actual IP address whenever it happens, basically defeating the point of a VPN.
Also, I’ve noticed that some websites seem to notice my actual location even when the HMA VPN is on. On websites that allow me to see where I’m connected from, I’ve noticed it sometimes displays my chosen location and at other times will display my actual location. This is when it’s on and not randomly disconnecting.
VPN connection in HMA is not secured at all. If you want privacy and security, do not waste your money on HMA, they keep logs. Support keeps on denying it.
HideMyAss.com claimed to have VPN to China on their site, then admitted that they didn’t after I renewed. THAT’S FRAUD. Won’t refund because it’s “against their policy”.
